Yesterday sixty-five year old veteran motorcyclist Bill Scott no longer owned a motorcycle. Today he is the proud owner of a new 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 250R, and it was virtually scot-free (no pun intended).
Early this spring Kawasaki Motor Corporation and participating dealers, in this case McKenney-Salinas Powersports of Gastonia, launched their 2011 "Good Times Sales Event." The promotion included both the "Ticket to Ride" National Demo Program and "Ticket to Win" giveaway program.
The Ticket to Ride Team traveled across the country bringing motorcyclists the opportunity to test ride Kawasaki's all new 2011 street bikes.
The Kawasaki Ticket to Ride tour made stops at 30 locations nationwide, including Charlotte Motor Speedway, in an effort to reach as many interested riders as possible.
"Ticket to Win" game pieces were made readily available to the motorcycling community via periodicals, direct mail, and the internet. "Ticket to Win" prizes included $250 off any Kawasaki vehicle over 249cc, 15 percent off any Kawasaki accessory item, or 10 percent off dealer service. Additionally, more than 115,000 certificates for free Green Day music downloads and Monster Energy Drink buy-one-get-one-free coupons were be given away.
After claiming their "Ticket to Win" prize, participants were able to use their game piece and game card from McKenney-Salinas Powersports to go on-line and register to win a brand new 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 250R..and Bill Scott of Belmont, North Carolina won! Bill was grinning from ear to ear as dealership Managing Partner Don Willis, Jr. handed him the key to his new bike.
This stroke of luck seems to have instantly rekindled Bill's desire to get out on the street and regional road race circuit. Back in the Seventies Bill competed on the Western Eastern Roadracing Association (WERA) circuit aboard one of the predominant 350cc six-speed, two-stroke, twin-cylinder motorcycles of the day.
Ever the avid motorcycle enthusiast, Bill once purchased a British Velocette Thruxton while in England, boxed it up in a wooden crate, and sailed back across the Atlantic with it. The Thruxton was a British motorcycle made between 1965 and 1971 by Velocette. Although then considered an antiquated four-stroke pushrod single, Bill used his Thruxton to toy with riders of the street legal version of the same two-stoke twin he chose to ride on the track.
Somehow we feel Bill and the 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 250R he won are going to be a perfect match.
